Call for Submissions: Rural Social Studies


We would like to invite you to submit a unique article that summarizes and extends your research and scholarship on Rural Social Studies.

Special Issue Editor: Casey Thomas Jakubowski, PhD; University of Maryland, Eastern Shore

Guidance:  Teaching in rural education, especially social studies, has emerged as a “battle ground” for many practitioners and scholars. The list of areas of research, which are not exhaustive includes:

  • Demographics of teachers 
  • Community leadership and curriculum
  • Supervisor understanding of social studies
  • State level curriculum and standards debates
  • Incorporating underrepresented voices
  • The lack of social studies in many places
  • International understandings of social studies, especially in rural areas
  • Other topics as submitted
